Contest Winner "My Pink Princess"

Hello Bridal Bee Readers!

I am proud to announce the winner of our first give away contest! Bradly Kim comes to us from Los Angeles, California and sent this story in to us:

"As I stood alongside other groomsmen and watched the bride make her joyous walk toward us, my eyes drifted toward the attendees. Some barely holding their tears, others who couldn't wait for this to be over. Me? I was somewhere in between. Then I noticed a flower girl approaching. She couldn't have been more than three years old. And she threw flower petals with carefree abandon until her basket ran out not even halfway down the aisle. So innocent, happy, and charming. She brought a smile to my face as my mind drifted to a day many many years ago...

I was five but could pass for a seven year-old if I straightened my posture and gave my fiercest stare. I was attending my first wedding... just as a spectator as I still hadn't found "The One." Well, the pre-school dating community wasn't very active and most of the women at this wedding reception just weren't my type. Don't get me wrong. I loved older women. Still do. But they lacked that certain je ne sais quoi. An aging cover band sang ballads to no one in particular. The dance floor was uncomfortably empty. And that's when I spotted her. Sitting twenty yards away and tapping her ruby red shoes as if she was Dorothy Gale. So let's just call her Dorothy.

Dorothy wore a pink fairy princess dress. She couldn't have been more than four years old. But when she smiled... Sigh. Her face lit up like a Kim Anderson portrait. Dorothy's face was made for a hundred Kodak moments. When she spotted me across the room and flashed her grin, the twelve-month age gap that divided us was as immaterial as the twenty yards that separated us. Besides, age, as my parents reminded me so often, was just a number.

I boldly stood up, locked my deep blue eyes to her hazel ones, and walked across the floor. My parents may remember this differently. ("I'll give you a dollar if you go dance with her.") But history will glorify my moment of chivalry. Like a knight in shining armor, I asked this fairy princess in pink to dance to... uh, a butchering of Journey's "Open Arms."

I held her hand and drew her closer. As we danced our way toward the middle of the empty dance floor, I lost track of time... not that I was old enough to read a clock. But that's not the point. A Michael Bay-inspired asteroid could have been heading toward earth and I wouldn't have cared. When she leaned closer, I remember the feeling of her hair brushing against my face. The soft, strawberry scent that tickled my nose. I wanted to hold on to that moment forever as I held her tight. But slowly, other couples moved to the dance floor. And before we knew it, the aging ballad singer was instructing everyone to, um, walk like an Egyptian.

To this day, I don't know her name. Is she married? Does she ever think about that once-in-a-lifetime day when Uncle Jim got married for the fourth time? Who knows? But not a week goes by when I don't think about her. And the thought of her always brings out a smile. My first crush."

Well mommies and daddies, I hope you loved the story as much as we at NancyAugust.com did. Bradly, we once again thank you for sharing with us! If you have a story you would like to share with my loyal Bridal Bee followers please send it to info@nancyaugust.com!
