This Halloween.... We've got it all for your little princess

Dressing Up your kids this Halloween. Yes, Elsa Costumes are in!
You know what my prediction is for this Halloween?   It will be a FROZEN one.  I am talking about Frozen the movie of course.  There will be tons of Elsa and Anna trick or treating on this year’s Halloween.
In fact seems like little girls are dressing up as Elsa these days for no apparent reason according to my Facebook feeds.  Why not, nothing wrong with dressing up as a cool fictional character on a daily basis, that’s one of the benefits of being a kid, besides not having to work and having people taking care of you every day.  If I could I would dress up as Batman every day.
We like the Elsa dress that is carry at NancyAugust.com , the price tag is a tad hefty at $75.99 compare to some of the ones you see at Party City or JC Penny for as low as 26.99.  the difference is that this one is an actual gown that is made like a proper dress and the 26.99 one is a cheaply made costume.   Why not be the best version of Elsa if there are going to be so many of them.  Just imagine group photos of Elsas. But hey if your kid is already loyal to some other Disney characters and will not be sway by the recently popular fictional character, that’s totally cool too, I myself will always be Batman.  Here are some well made Disney Gowns.  Remember these are actual gowns! Summer Tips for Kids

Summer is here! Children do not want to sit around - summer is prime time for enjoying the outdoors with your kids. Here are few tips to help make it a fun, enjoyable and safe summer.

Skin Protection
Avoiding sunburn is a must – according to the Skin Cancer Foundation Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer.

Make sure you and your kids use sunscreen daily with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 that protects against UV (ultraviolet) A and B rays. Apply sunscreen about 20 minutes before going outside. Reapply sunscreen every two hours and after a dip in the pool, even if your kids are using a water-resistant product. Wide-brimmed hats, whole-body swimsuits, sunglasses and lip balm with an SPF15 add important protection.
Don’t use sunscreen on babies 6 months old and younger. Instead, protect babies from the sun with lightweight pants, long-sleeved shirts and a hat with a brim.

When sunburn does occur, treat it with soothing agents such as aloe and emollient lotions. Use over-the-counter hydrocortisone to ease discomfort.

Beat the Heat
Plan your outdoor adventures for the cooler morning and dusk hours of the day. Avoid direct sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as it is at its peak during these hours. Plan a nice picnic at your local park, lay a blanket underneath the shade of the trees with cooling snacks like watermelon. If your child is playing summer sports or is physically active outdoors, keep cool drinks such as water or sports drinks close at hand.

Pool Safety
If you have a backyard pool, make sure it is fenced in with properly functioning and locking gates. Don’t rely on inflatable toys or mattresses to keep your child safe. Close supervision is essential at all times –  you need to be close enough to reach out and catch your child if needed.

Hopefully these tips are helpful and remember to keep hydrated at all time.

Easter, Easter, Easter!!

Easter is here once again. I don't know about you, but when I was a kid Easter was on of the funnest holidays. Not only did we get to decorate Easter eggs, we also had a family get together at a nice park where we would all bring good food, eat and just enjoy our family time. Of course us kids would always make a mess coloring the eggs. We would actually try to color each other :-) I remember we would always use this egg decoration kit.

There are plenty more online and even more detailed kits. You can do tie-dye eggs, glitter eggs and you can even do polka dot eggs. In my family we have  lets say a "wealthy" grandmother and she would buy the plastic eggs, You know the kind you can put candy in and things like that. Well my grandmother used to put MONEY in them instead of candy, anywhere from 1 dollar to a 20 dollar bill. So when the egg hunt came around we were not even interested in the eggs we colored, we were only on the hunt for the plastic ones. When my uncle rang the bell to start the hunt, we would start off like this, excited and ready to hunt for eggs.

That wouldn't last long though, we would all fall over each other trying to get to the eggs first and if two of us got to the egg at the same time, there was an egg battle with the eggs we colored. We would literally launch the eggs at each other and not even worry if the other got hurt. We would push and shove like crazy. "My Eggs" :-)

Preparing For Your Child's Baptism

A Baptism or Christening happens when families introduce their child into their church and faith. During this special occasion, families often pray and give thanks for their child’s safe arrival into the world. On the other hand, some parents may choose to have a simple ceremony as oppose to a huge religious celebration.

When preparing for your child’s baptism or christening, it’s important that you arrange for the white gown he/she will wear during the ceremony. You may purchase a new gown or even a vintage one from an antique store. Many families will also have a gown that has been passed down from generations. Traditionally, the baby should wear a long white or cream gown—with white symbolizing the purity of life found in Christ. If you don’t want to use a traditional gown for the ceremony, you could opt for a simple white dress for your baby girl or a white suit for your baby boy. Do not be concerned—it has become quite common for baby boys to wear formal suits or a formal white shirt and pants. Just remember to consult with your priest first before making a clothing purchase, because different parishes may have different standards. If you are planning to buy a new outfit, find out how you can preserve it for future use.

Wedding Tips: Dressing Your Child

Weddings usually include children in the special occasion—just imagine a handsome little ring bearer and an adorable little flower girl. Whether your child is included in the party or not, it is important that you give a lot of thought into what he/she will wear to the event.

Flower Girl

For little girls included in the wedding party, it is important that their outfits reflect what the bride is wearing. Flower girls often wear elegant dresses for formal weddings. The dresses can be white to match the bride’s dress or match the rest of the bride’s party (i.e. bridesmaids). Casual or formal, flower girls can wear long or short dresses. Flowers can also be added in the flower girl’s hair to coordinate with her dress and the flower petals she drops.

Ring Bearer

Unlike flower girls, ring bearers can get away with a couple of different outfit options. Young ring bearers could mimic the groomsmen or even the groom in a black tux or suit paired with a classic white button-up shirt. If the wedding is casual, try to keep the outfit kid-friendly by omitting restrictive accessories (i.e. cummerbund, cuff links, etc.) to keep him comfortable. The ring bearer could even wear nice slacks or shorts with a polo shirt. If you choose to go for the more formal route, make sure the vest and/or cummerbund are the same color as the bride’s party.

Remember that children grow quickly; therefore, it is extremely important that the wedding clothes you purchase for your child are durable enough to last for other occasions. If your child is going to be part of an upcoming wedding, consider his/her age and size at the time of the event. If you are unsure about the fit, always go a size bigger because it’ll allow you to make any additional alterations.

Birthday Tips: Dressing Your Child

Birthday traditions are important for many American families. Especially for children, birthday parties are always a fun celebration, but it’s also important that children dress right for the occasion.

The first important rule for dressing your child for a birthday party is to find out the theme of the party. This factor is extremely important to consider—you do not want your child to look over-dressed, and even worst, under-dressed. If your child is attending a formal birthday, ideally he/she should be wearing a fancy outfit. Costume parties, however, are so easy. You can get away with dressing your child in any outfit. You can even find something from your own closet to use. On the other hand, there are parties that have a specific theme, like a princess dress up party. Princess parties require that guests come dressed in their favorite princess dresses, and accessorized with sparkling tiaras and wands.

A second tip to remember is to research for the latest styles and trends in children’s fashion. If you aren’t aware of the new trends, get some ideas by browsing through online websites, like NancyAugust.com, for the latest children’s formal attire. When deciding for the right clothes, include your child in picking out the right look. Use this opportunity to also create some bonding time with your child. Just make sure that you print or save your findings for reference.

Lastly, choose the best accessories to complete your child’s overall look. Accessories are essential, especially for pairing with party dresses. If your little girl is wearing a fairy or princess costume, you should then purchase a small tiara to complete the whole appeal. If you’re looking to save some money, opt for making your own accessories.

Summer Craft: Soap Clouds!

Get your kids into the summer spirit with fun summer arts and crafts! One of the best parts of having summer activities is that the weather is warm and you can send messy projects outside. Summer arts and crafts are not just about being creative—they are also about getting your kids away from the television and getting them to run around and play outside. Here is a fun activity that I know your kids will enjoy—it’s called ‘Soap Clouds’. The best part about this activity? All you really need is a bar of Ivory soap. Take a look!

1. Place a piece of waxed paper, parchment, plastic wrap, or paper towel in your microwave. Then place
your bar of ivory soap on top of the paper in the microwave.

2. Start your microwave for a couple of minutes on high power, and see what happens. The soap starts growing! Sometimes the soap will even form into a really big cloud. Just make sure not to smash it, or you will get some dust everywhere.

3. Now place your giant blob of dried soap in either a bowl or an electric beater. Add a a bit of warm water and start mixing until it comes together.

4. Once the mix is ready, you can let your kids press it into cookie cutters. After the soaps are molded, let them dry and this is what they should look like!

Now go have some fun with your kids. Make this summer one you and your kids will enjoy!
